About the Project and the Exhibition:
Lostgens’, a contemporary art institution based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is collaborating with the C & G Artpartment in Sheffield on a bilateral exchange programme. C & G visited Lostgens’ for an artist residency during the Christmas period last December, during which a series of artistic activities were carried out.
This year, during the Lunar New Year period from February to March, two artists from Lostgens’, Yeoh Lian Heng and Luka Indra, will take part in a residency at C & G. They will also organise a series of public engagement programmes, including a documentary screening and post-screening sharing session, a printmaking workshop, and a printmaking art exhibition.
This bilateral exchange programme is funded by the British Council. The programme uses “printmaking” as the main medium for interaction, engagement, and exchange, exploring the colonial and diasporic histories of the two regions.

The documentary of " Valley of Hope" (~37 min long) tells the fascinating story of a semi-isolated community that emerged in response to a previous contentious disease of leprosy. Over time, this community not only adapted but also preserved its unique identity for various reasons, all while its history intertwined with Malaysia's colonial past.
Among its residents, some recently discovered a passion for printmaking—a medium that became a bridge between their world and the outside. Lostgens’ artists have collaborated closely with these residents, and in the post-screening discussion, the artists will share how the art of printmaking has offered new perspectives: helping outsiders understand life in the valley and allowing the residents to see beyond their own boundaries.

2. “Cross Border Manifestations” Happy Lunar New Year Printmaking Workshop
Date:28/2/2026 (Sat)
Time:10:30am - 4:00pm
Venue: Millennium Gallery, 48 Arundel Gate, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2PP, UK
During the "Year of the Horse Party" organised by Re-Water CIC
This project aims to unite people’s manifestations from across borders, fostering meaningful exchange and gathering collective wishes. Its purpose is to manifest everyone’s hopes and work toward making them a reality.
Lostgens’ artists Yeoh Lian Heng and Luka Indra have, for many years, been deeply engaged in researching and exploring Chinese Malaysian heritage in Kuala Lumpur, with a focus on cultural transmission, historical memory, and storytelling. They will share artworks evolved from their long-term collaboration with residents of Valley of Hope, Kuala Lumpur’s largest leprosy settlement, where printmaking has been used as a medium to document the residents’ histories and to develop a series of distinctive, personal print works.
This Year of the Horse, the resident artists have created a special series of horse-themed prints. They are brining the printing blocks to share with the Sheffield community, at the "The Year of the Horse Party" at Millennium Gallery on 28/2/2026! Join us to print your own Lunar New Year artwork from the original plates, with guidance and support from the two Lostgens’ artists to celebrate the Lunar New Year together.
